In the long, long ago.... it was said that the forest mice found a wee baby mouse who could not fall asleep....
The "Sandman" heard of this from far away...
And it was of great concern to him....
The "Sandman" and his faithful donkey left their castle high in the mountains...
To find this wee creature who could not sleep.... they flew in the air for many miles searching...
All of a sudden they heard a wee mouse squeaking... she was in distress and needed sleep badly!
The "Sandman" flicked a bit of sleeping sand in the mouse`s eyes but she was still awake! So the "Sandman" lifted her onto his sweet donkey`s back....
And they flew swiftly to his castle .....
When he arrived home his dear owl friend was waiting... wondering what this wee mouse was doing in the castle!
When the owl learned that the mouse could not sleep he took her over to see his sleeping baby.... hoping the mouse would catch on. But the mouse just squeaked and squeaked....
The "Sandman" knew he had to make a special strong concoction of sleeping sand for this wee babe, and he sprinkled some in her eyes softly....
The donkey looked down and to her surprise she saw a sleeping mouse!
The "Sandman" saved the tiny mouse, as no one can live without sleeping!
He lifted her into his arms and she was even snoring!
His donkey wanted to keep the little mouse....
But the "Sandman" said she belonged to someone and they must fly her back home....
Even though they were tired themselves from their long journey...
They knew the sleeping mouse needed to be home...
So after eating a bit and brushing his donkey the "Sandman" carried his precious cargo through the sky back to the forest where a worried Mama mouse was waiting....
He gave the wee mouse a kiss and lifted her down into her soft nest....
But before he left he sprinkled a little extra strong sleeping sand into the spiderweb lace on her blanket just to be safe! Whoosh.....and off he went with his beloved donkey!
